State Affiliate Sessions
We encourage NCTE Affiliates to consider hosting a "Future Is Now" session at their state and regional conferences as a way to recruit, engage, and support pre-service and beginning teachers.
The Pennsylvania Council of Teachers of English and Language Arts (PCTELA) hosted the first Affiliate "Future Is Now" session in Pittsburgh on October 21, 2017. Thanks to Thomas Crochunis from Shippensburg University for organizing and promoting the session and to Scholastic for providing signed copies of Kylene Beers and Bob Probst's Disrupting Thinking to all attendees at the end of Saturday’s concluding session. For more information about the organization of this session, see this letter of invitation from PCTELA.
The Georgia Council of Teachers of English (GCTE) featured their inaugural "Future Is Now" session at the 2018 GCTE conference on February 9-10 at the University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education and Hotel in Athens, GA. The session was chaired by Nick Thompson from The University of Georgia and Rob Montgomery from Kennesaw State University. More information about the GCTE "Future Is Now" session can be found on the session website, and a great review of the session can be found in GCTE's Scribbles N' Bits Newsletter (see pp. 7-8).
The Indiana Council of Teachers of English (ICTE) featured the "Future Is Now" session at the 2019 ICTE State Conference in Indianapolis on Saturday, March 16. Chaired by Luke Rodesiler from Purdue University Fort Wayne, the session showcased the ideas and experiences 25 prospective English teachers have built in teacher education programs across the state of Indiana. Details about the 2019 iteration of ICTE's "Future Is Now" session can be found in the conference program on the ICTE website.
